Firefighters searching a wildfire-stricken area near the village of Liti, northwest of Thessaloniki, recovered a body from inside a damaged house on Tuesday as emergency crews continued searching for a missing 12-year-old boy.
The body, whose identity has not yet been established, was found trapped beneath collapsed debris inside the residence.
The discovery followed the earlier recovery of the body of a 66-year-old man in a nearby forest area bordering the settlement. Authorities identified him as the father of the missing boy, who remained unaccounted for late Tuesday as firefighting and search operations continued.
Firefighters also rescued a woman with burn injuries from the same property.
The fatalities occurred as a fast-moving wildfire swept through the area around Liti amid high temperatures and strong winds, prompting a major firefighting response involving ground crews and aircraft. Authorities ordered precautionary evacuations in nearby communities as firefighters battled multiple wildfire fronts across Greece under extreme fire danger conditions.
Police and fire brigade personnel continued searching the area for the missing child while investigators worked to establish the identity of the body recovered from the house and determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
