The 43-year-old head of the Pieria Referees Committee, who is accused of involvement in the match-fixing part of the case against the NGO that defrauded citizens through fundraisers for sick children, was released after his testimony on the condition that he does not leave the country.

The 43-year-old was taken to the Thessaloniki Courts on Wednesday morning, November 4, to give his account before the investigating judge regarding the role attributed to him in the case file.

According to thestival, the 43-year-old said in his testimony: “I have seen the 37-year-old president of the NGO once. If I remember correctly, it was last September at a public event. I have never spoken with him on the phone.”

In statements, the 43-year-old’s lawyer, Athanasios Eleftheriadis, said: “Our client has denied any involvement in the case from the start. There is no phone conversation of his. In addition, there has been no contact with any of his co-defendants. We believe he will prove his innocence in court. The defendant testified with complete honesty about all the facts, and we must respect that he denies any involvement. No one says they ever met with him, and of course, as committee president, he never assigned this particular referee to benefit a specific team. His name is heard in conversations between two other people. My name could come up in a conversation between journalists, but that does not mean I know what others are discussing behind my back. His name comes up because he is the committee’s president. He had no knowledge of and no contact with the NGO. He met him once at a public event in September 2026.”
