The defendants in a high-profile case involving an alleged criminal organization operating on the island of Mykonos arrived at the Athens Court of Appeals shortly before 9 a.m.

The case file includes police officers accused of abusing their positions, individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking and business owners accused of seeking and receiving preferential treatment.

Businessman Angelos Giannakopoulos, known as “Mr. Choriatiko,” was absent from the transfer to court. He is among the defendants in the case.

Former senior police officer at the center of the case

A former senior police officer with the Mykonos Subdivision is a central figure in the case file. He is alleged to have headed a criminal organization that operated between 2022 and 2025.

According to the indictment, the officer allegedly used his access to confidential police information to assist private individuals. The organization is also accused of involvement in drug trafficking and providing protection to businesses on the island.

Two charges against ‘Mr. Choriatiko’

Businessman A.G. faces charges of bribing a public official and offering money in exchange for assistance with a police officer’s transfer.

According to the case file:

  • He allegedly paid the former senior officer at least €300 a month in exchange for confidential police information, details identifying vehicle owners through their license plates and advance warnings of surprise police inspections at the nightclub he managed on Mykonos.
  • He is also accused of offering €3,000 to secure assistance with a transfer, with the aim of keeping the officer on the island.

Drug trafficking allegations

The case file also names senior police officers who allegedly assisted in the distribution of narcotics.

Particular attention has been drawn to the alleged involvement of a police lieutenant assigned to the Attica Narcotics Division, who is accused of misappropriating quantities of drugs seized by the authorities but not officially recorded.

According to the allegations, he subsequently supplied the drugs to an informant so they could be resold on the illegal market.

The indictment describes a complex network of alleged corruption and criminal activity centered on Mykonos, involving individuals suspected of exploiting their police positions for private gain.
