New Democracy lawmaker Dora Bakoyannis spoke about the results of the US midterm elections, foreign policy and domestic political developments in Greece, stressing that the election outcome in the US sent a clear message against the rising cost of living.

Speaking on SKAI radio, Bakoyannis said that with their vote, American citizens said “no to high prices, which they know are entirely blamed on Trump, for a war they did not understand, an unnecessary war that has driven up prices worldwide.” She also said that the US president’s decision to announce a halt to funding for Israel on election day was “too little, too late.”

“The Election of Greek-Americans Is Good News for Greece”

Referring to the impact of the result on Athens, Bakoyannis sounded reassuring, noting that Greek interests remain secure, and praised the reelection of Greek-American lawmakers:

“They were all elected, both Pappas and Bilirakis, who are among our biggest supporters in Congress. All those of Greek descent who were elected, whether Republicans or Democrats, are very good news for Greece.”

Speaking about Greek-American relations, Bakoyannis stressed that Greece has no reason to complain about Washington’s foreign policy, noting that the F-35 issue “is not on the table and will not even come before Congress.”

She also sounded the alarm on shipping, pointing out that a key goal for Greece should be the creation of a safe corridor from Ukraine to Egypt to prevent a grain crisis.

Jabs at Tsipras, Androulakis and Samaras

The New Democracy lawmaker launched a strong attack on Alexis Tsipras and Nikos Androulakis, predicting a “bloody” contest between them for second place:

“I heard Mr. Tsipras say yesterday that we are the European Public Prosecutor’s Office’s best customers. Let me remind him that if it had existed in his day, he would have set a Guinness record with Novartis and the TV channels,” she said.

Finally, asked to comment on the criticism of the government by former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, Bakoyannis made her position clear: “I have decided that I no longer comment on Mr. Samaras. I think he can speak for himself.”
