The Greek-flagged vehicle carrier Neptune Ethos ran aground on a sandy seabed off the Kamatero coast of Salamina on Monday evening (October 5), under circumstances that remain unclear. The vessel was carrying no cargo at the time.

Built in 2011, the Neptune Ethos is a specialized Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) designed to transport vehicles.

The incident prompted an immediate response from port authorities. Three tugboats rushed to the scene to assist in the effort to refloat the ship, along with a diver who is expected to inspect the hull below the waterline before the refloating operation begins.

There are 36 people on board: 27 crew members and nine members of a private repair team.

In an official statement, the ship’s owner, Neptune Lines, said that everyone on board was in good health and completely safe following the grounding. The company added that there had been no marine pollution and that the incident posed no threat to the environment.

Neptune Lines also said it had been working closely with the relevant authorities and specialized partners from the outset to manage the situation promptly and safely, in full compliance with all required procedures and safety protocols.
