Greece has updated its emergency weather bulletin to reflect the latest forecasts, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across parts of the country’s eastern mainland and islands on Wednesday, October 28.
The most severe conditions are expected in four regions under a red-level warning: Thessaly, the Sporades, Evia and the Dodecanese. Local hailstorms are also possible, according to the updated bulletin, which was first issued Monday, October 26, as bulletin No. 8/2026.
Red alert for four regions
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected intermittently through late Wednesday night in the following areas:
- Thessaly: Particularly the regional units of Magnesia and Larissa.
- Sporades: The northern Aegean island group.
- Evia: Greece’s large island off the eastern mainland.
- Dodecanese: The southeastern Aegean island group.
All four areas are under the highest, red-level weather warning.
Orange alert for eastern Greece
An orange-level warning is also in effect for parts of eastern Greece.
The eastern Aegean islands are expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms through late Wednesday evening.
In eastern Central Greece, including mainly the regional units of Phocis, Phthiotis and Boeotia, similar conditions are forecast intermittently through late Wednesday night.
The updated bulletin warns that rainfall and thunderstorms could affect several parts of eastern mainland and island Greece, with localized hail also possible.
