Greek authorities have seized more than 207 kilograms of raw cannabis at Athens International Airport, preventing the shipment from reaching the illegal drug market. The drugs had an estimated potential sale value of €1 million.

The operation was carried out by the Hellenic Police’s Narcotics Division in cooperation with the airport customs department responsible for combating smuggling. Investigators acted on information indicating that the drugs had been transported by air from Asia in August.

Cannabis concealed in shipment declared as clothing

During a targeted inspection at a temporary cargo storage facility at Athens International Airport, officers discovered two pallets carrying 48 cardboard boxes.

According to the accompanying shipping documents, the boxes contained clothing originating from Thailand. However, a search revealed 207 kilograms and 466 grams of raw cannabis, which were seized by authorities.
