Μake us preferred on Google A new migrant arrival was recorded south of Crete overnight after two boats carrying about 87 people were detected in the sea roughly 21 nautical miles south and southeast of Kaloi Limenes.
The boats were spotted by a Frontex aerial asset under the coordination of Greece’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center. A Hellenic Coast Guard patrol vessel was dispatched to the area and carried out the rescue operation.
The rescued migrants were taken to the port of Agia Galini.
The latest operation came just hours after a series of arrivals and rescue operations off the southern coast of Crete on Wednesday.
According to the report, 240 people were located and rescued off Kaloi Limenes in the Heraklion regional unit in five separate operations.
With the latest rescue, the number of migrants located and rescued in the operations has risen to approximately 327, according to Greece’s public broadcaster ERT.
