Winter conditions will intensify across Greece on Monday, January 19, with local rain in central, eastern, and southern regions and light snowfall in many inland areas, including low-lying plains in parts of northern Greece. Temperatures will fall slightly further, while strong to near-gale-force winds will dominate both the Aegean and Ionian seas, potentially disrupting ferry services.

Local rain is expected over central, eastern, and southern mainland Greece as well as Evia. Light snowfall will mainly affect mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, but in Macedonia—especially central and western parts—and Thessaly, light snow is expected at times even in lowland areas. Rain will also affect parts of the Cyclades and Crete, with intermittent snowfall over the mountains of Crete.

Temperatures (in Celsius) will range as follows:

  • Western Macedonia: -8°C to 1°C
  • Rest of Macedonia: -4°C to 4°C
  • Thrace: -8°C to 3–4°C
  • Epirus: -2°C to 8°C
  • Central mainland Greece: -2°C to 4–6°C
  • Western and southern mainland regions: 3°C to 8–10°C
  • Other eastern mainland areas: 0°C to 7°C
  • Ionian Islands: 4°C to 8–10°C
  • Northern and Northeastern Aegean Islands: 0°C to 6–7°C
  • Remaining Aegean islands and Crete: 4°C to 8–11°C
  • Dodecanese: highs reaching 11–13°C

Winds will be a significant feature of the day. In the Aegean Sea, northeasterly winds will blow at 5 to 6 Beaufort, locally reaching 7 Beaufort and strengthening further in the evening. In the Ionian Sea and the Kythira Sea, easterly winds will start at 5 to 6 Beaufort, increasing to 7–8 Beaufort and locally up to 9 Beaufort overnight.

Athens (Attica): Cloudy skies with a few light rain showers are expected, mainly in northern and western parts of the prefecture. Light snow may fall at times over mountainous areas, especially Mount Parnitha and Mount Kithairon, and locally in semi-mountainous areas. Northeasterly winds will blow at 5 to 6 Beaufort, locally up to 7 Beaufort in eastern areas. Temperatures will range from 3°C to 6–7°C, with lower values in northern suburbs.

Thessaloniki: Cloudy conditions are expected early in the day, with light snow affecting mountainous, semi-mountainous, and locally low-lying areas. Coastal zones may see sleet or brief light snowfall. Conditions will quickly improve, giving way to sunshine. Winds will be light and variable at 2 to 3 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 1°C to 4–5°C, with colder conditions outside the city.
