The Benaki Museum is hosting an exhibition celebrating the works of painter Alexis Akrithakis, titled “Alexis Akrithakis: A Line like a Wave”. The retrospective curated by his daughter Chloe Akrithakis and Alexios Papazacharias includes works through the entire artistic journey of the distinctive modern Greek artist, that was continuously shaped by his life journey.
Rebellious nature in technicolor
Characterized by bold lines and vibrant hues, Alexis Akrithakis’ collection is represented by psychedelic patterns on several mediums including paper, canvas, and mixed-media collages. The exhibition includes some of his most famed works like ‘the suitcase’, as well as his last few melancholic pieces he created during his hospitalization in Dromokaiteio Psychiatric Hospital in Athens.
Intent to showcase the creative diversity of the pivotal Greek painter, this is the first complete retrospective to take place in Greece in over 30 years. “A Line like a Wave” will take you from bright expressionist works to heart-wrenching portraits.
