The Greek government will present its proposed framework for regulating minors’ access to social media on Monday, October 12, ahead of the submission of a relevant bill to Parliament.
State Minister Akis Skertsos, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou will outline the plan at a news conference scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Bodosakeio Mansion in Athens.
According to details released so far, the proposed legislation would block children under the age of 15 from accessing social media platforms beginning January 1, 2027.
How age verification will work
Papastergiou has previously outlined how the government intends to verify users’ ages through the Kids Wallet application.
The system will not disclose a user’s date of birth or other identifying information. Instead, it will provide only an indication of whether the user is above or below the applicable age threshold.
The government is preparing to submit the legislation to Parliament, with Monday’s presentation expected to provide further details about the proposed rules governing minors’ access to social media.
