A significant fire broke out in the early afternoon of July 1, 2025, at a wood processing factory located near Ano Souli, in the municipality of Emmanouil Pappas, close to the town of Serres in northern Greece. The blaze started shortly after 2:30 p.m. under currently unknown circumstances.
Authorities as reported by ERT said that the fire ignited in an open yard containing large quantities of wood, prompting an immediate and large-scale response from firefighting teams. Firefighters are actively engaged in combating the flames, with reinforcements expected in the form of two helicopters scheduled to conduct water drops to aid containment efforts.
Local civil protection machinery and community volunteers from the surrounding area are working diligently to create firebreaks, aiming to prevent the fire from spreading to three nearby livestock enclosures. These preventative measures are critical in protecting both property and local agriculture.
