A high wildfire risk (Category 3) has been forecast for today, Monday, July 20, across several regions of Greece, according to the Daily Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection.
The areas classified as facing a high fire risk include Attica, Evia, Boeotia, Phthiotis, Magnesia, Argolis, Corinthia, Laconia, Aetolia-Acarnania, Arta, Preveza, Thesprotia, and Kilkis, as well as the Ionian Islands and the Eastern Aegean islands.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection, under the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, has alerted all relevant state agencies, regional authorities, and municipalities in the affected areas, placing them on heightened readiness to ensure a rapid response to any wildfire incidents.
Authorities are also urging the public to exercise extreme caution and avoid any outdoor activities that could accidentally ignite a fire. These include burning dry grass or branches, operating equipment that generates sparks—such as circular saws or welding tools—using outdoor barbecues, smoking beehives, and discarding lit cigarettes.
Officials also reminded the public that the burning of agricultural fields is strictly prohibited throughout the fire season. Anyone who spots a wildfire is urged to immediately notify the Fire Service by calling 199.
