One man is dead following a mob-style shooting outside a private medical center in Halandri, northern Athens, on Thursday.
The victim was exiting the facility at the intersection of Papanikoli and Palaiologou streets at around 4.30 p.m., when one of the passengers in a passing vehicle opened fire, shooting him in the face. The attackers fled the scene immediately.
Emergency services and police arrived shortly afterward.
Authorities confirmed that the victim, identified as Yiorgos Mouschouris, allegedly linked to the Greek mafia, was killed with a Kalashnikov rifle.
Shell casings were recovered at the scene. In connection with the case, a burned vehicle was discovered in the Patima area of Halandri and another in the nearby suburb of Filothei. Police believe at least one of these vehicles served as a getaway car.
A large section of the highly frequented area has been cordoned off as the investigation continues. Officials are exploring the possibility that the murder was a targeted killing, potentially linked to personal disputes or score-settling within organized crime circles.
