Health authorities are investigating a cluster of salmonella infections after several young people sought treatment at the General Hospital of Kastoria in northern Greece with symptoms initially believed to be gastroenteritis.

The hospital has been on alert since July 18, when multiple patients arrived over a short period displaying similar symptoms.

Laboratory tests later confirmed salmonella infection in several of the cases.

Investigation Focuses on Possible Common Source

According to available information, many of the affected individuals had recently been at the same location, raising the possibility of a common source of exposure.

There are also reports suggesting the cases may be linked to the consumption of a specific food product, although no further details have been released.

This comes as another salmonella outbreak linked to chicken is ongoing in the city of Lamia, with dozens of hospitalizations.
