Μake us preferred on Google Search and rescue teams on Friday continued efforts to locate a 62-year-old Romanian tourist who has been missing for three days in the wider Alykanas area on the Ionian Sea island of Zakynthos.
The coordinated search by local authorities has so far produced no result, with police, firefighters and other emergency services examining possible locations where the woman may have traveled.
The 62-year-old was last seen early Saturday, Sept. 12, at the reception desk of the hotel where she was staying. Security camera footage from businesses in the area reportedly shows her walking through the center of Alykanas until about 10 a.m.
The search operation involves members of various law enforcement and civil protection entities, a K9 unit and a drone.
The case is the latest in a series of searches for foreign tourists who have gone missing while visiting Greece, with authorities in recent years repeatedly deploying police, fire brigade personnel, coast guard units, volunteers, drones and search dogs in difficult terrain and under challenging weather conditions.
Searches for missing tourists can often extend across large areas, particularly when the last known movements are uncertain. Authorities typically examine surveillance footage, mobile-phone data and other available information alongside ground and aerial searches to establish a missing person’s movements.
