A secondary school student in the western Athens suburb of Haidari is in critical condition after falling from the first floor of her school building on Monday.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene within minutes and found the girl alive. She was first transported to “Attikon” General Hospital, where she was intubated and admitted to intensive care, before being transferred to a children’s hospital for further treatment.
According to a student witness, the girl had been sitting on a balcony railing shortly before the fall and may have lost her balance accidentally. The exact circumstances remain under investigation.
Greek Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki visited the hospital where the student is being treated. The Ministry of Education has launched its own inquiry into the incident in parallel with ongoing assessments by authorities.
In response to the incident, psychologists and social workers from the local municipality and the Ministry of Education have been deployed to support students and staff at the school, as the community deals with the aftermath of the event.
Authorities have not yet released further details, and the investigation is ongoing.
