A 16-year-old girl has been arrested in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki after police said she used a forged identity card to enter a bar, where she was later found intoxicated.

According to police, the teenager presented an altered national identity card that falsely indicated she was of legal age in order to gain entry to the venue. She was arrested on charges of forgery.

The incident took place on Saturday night and also led to criminal charges against a 19-year-old man who was accompanying her.

He is accused of endangering a minor and violating legislation governing the protection of minors from alcohol and tobacco products.

Police said their investigation found that the pair had consumed alcoholic drinks earlier in the evening after the 19-year-old purchased them from a store near Thessaloniki’s central Aristotelous Square.

The case file will now be forwarded to the competent public prosecutor for further legal proceedings.
