As discontent among Greek public opinion continues to grow over the Tempi train crash and the subsequent poor handling of the accident by the government, a sentiment reflected in the most recent polls, a lawyer representing the families’ victims made a disturbing revelation regarding the handling of one of the victim’s remains.

Speaking to local TV station Attica TV, the lawyer claimed that a family was given a coffin containing not only the intact body of their loved one but also an additional body part.

“Shall I tell you something tragic? The parent does not allow me to reveal their name, but do you know that a father was given a coffin with a full body—completely intact—yet there was also another body part inside? They placed an extra limb in the coffin,” Giannis Mandzouranis stated.

Mandzouranis went on to highlight the lack of oversight in the investigation, stating: “There was no control, nothing at all. A fully intact body—nothing missing, no hand, no leg, no head—yet there was an additional body part. Where did it come from? This shows the way this crime was investigated and how the wrongdoing continues.”

The lawyer further questioned the whereabouts of other remains from the 2023 Tempi disaster which claimed the lives of 57 people, emphasizing that forensic experts have confirmed that when more than three bones are present, toxicological and histological examinations can be conducted.

“For two years, these tests have not been done. And it makes my blood boil. Toxicological, histological, and DNA tests must be carried out,” he stressed.
