A large wildfire continues to burn near the town of Lechaina in the prefecture of Ilia in the western Peloponnese, with the fire department having already dispatched forces to contain the blaze.
According to reports, while the forest fire spread with great speed, no residential settlements are at immediate risk. The strong gusts are hindering the efforts of over 60 firefighters battling the flames. Eighteen firefighting vehicles are also aiding in the efforts, while tractors and other farming machinery are also contributing to control the front.
Firefighting crews are being supported by water tankers and heavy machinery provided by local authorities, as efforts intensify to bring the flames under control as quickly as possible.
