German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, a German government official confirmed Tuesday.
Merz is set to open the annual forum with a keynote speech detailing Germany’s foreign policy priorities amid growing tensions between global powers and challenges in transatlantic relations. The official emphasized that Merz does not subscribe to the notion that the United States can or should be written off as a partner, signaling his intention to outline a path forward for cooperation between Europe and Washington.
The Munich Security Conference, a key platform for international diplomacy, will provide an opportunity for bilateral and multilateral discussions on security, global conflicts, and the evolving international order.
