Greek police carried out a late-night operation at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, resulting in 38 arrests after officers entered the School of Engineering premises shortly after midnight.
According to authorities, those arrested face charges of disrupting the operation of a public service.
Intervention After Film Screening
Earlier in the evening, a film screening had been announced for 8:00 p.m. Police intervened after some attendees reportedly remained on campus following the end of the event.
University rectorate authorities had recently issued an order prohibiting any events from taking place on campus, citing the need to safeguard the institution’s smooth functioning and prevent further tensions following recent incidents.
48 Detentions, 38 Arrests
Police initially detained 48 individuals. After completing the relevant investigation procedures, 38 of those detentions were converted into formal arrests.
The operation involved multiple specialized police units, including riot police and crime prevention teams, which entered the campus area to conduct checks and detain those present.
