Earlier on Thursday, the Hellenic Police and the Fire Service had warned that calls to the two numbers might not go through while the work was underway. Both services urged the public to use the European emergency number 112 instead. The Fire Service also published direct mobile numbers for its regional operations centers across the country as an alternative.
The police announcement did not say how long the disruption was expected to last. Once the work was completed and the fault fixed, the two lines were restored and citizens can again reach the services without restrictions.
