Five people were rescued after a recreational craft sank off Plomari on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos on Tuesday evening, according to the Greek Coast Guard.

The incident occurred in the sea area of Mersinia, near Plomari, prompting a search-and-rescue operation coordinated by the joint rescue coordination center.

The five occupants were recovered and taken to Tarti beach. They were all reported to be in good health.

The circumstances that led to the vessel sinking were not immediately known.

The incident follows another recreational boating accident in Greece last month, when a rented tourist boat carrying four people capsized off Sithonia in Halkidiki. The four passengers were rescued unharmed after the vessel overturned near Ampelitsi islet. The partially submerged boat was subsequently towed away.
