Residents of Kypseli have cleared a key hurdle in their legal battle over damage to their homes linked to construction of Athens Metro Line 4, after an Athens court ordered the release of critical documents concerning affected buildings.

The Athens Court of First Instance accepted the residents’ request for a temporary court order requiring Elliniko Metro, the state company overseeing the project, to allow them to examine expert reports and other documents concerning buildings that have sustained damage in the northern Athens neighborhood.

The residents say the documents are essential to assessing the extent of cracks and subsidence affecting the buildings and determining the steps needed to begin repairs.

Under the court decision, Elliniko Metro and the consortium responsible for constructing Metro Line 4 are now required to make the relevant documents available to the residents who brought the case.

The legal action comes as residents seek information about the condition of their properties following construction work for Line 4, a major expansion of Athens’ subway network.

The documents at issue include expert assessments of buildings affected in Kypseli. Residents argue that access to the findings is necessary before the extent of the structural damage and the appropriate restoration work can be properly evaluated.

The court’s decision therefore opens the way for residents to examine the technical evidence gathered about their homes as their legal case proceeds.
