Firefighters in Zakynthos carried out a dramatic rescue operation on Thursday, saving a dog that had become trapped on a steep cliff on a beach in Zakynthos.
According to the Fire Service, members of the Zakynthos Fire Brigade and the 17th Special Ground Disaster Response Unit (EMODE) descended the cliff using specialized mountaineering equipment to reach the stranded animal.
In a post shared on social media, the Fire Service confirmed that the dog was safely retrieved and brought back to the top of the cliff before being handed over to a veterinarian for examination.
The post noted: “The dog was in danger, but firefighters from the Zakynthos Fire Service and the 17th EMODE approached him and, using mountaineering equipment, lifted him safely from the cliff at Pisinés beach in Keri and delivered him to a veterinarian.”
The rescue has drawn praise online, highlighting once again the crucial role of Greece’s emergency responders in safeguarding both human and animal lives.
