A seven-story apartment building collapsed Thursday morning in Maltepe, a district in Istanbul, triggering a major rescue operation as authorities searched for people who may have been trapped beneath the rubble.

Rescue crews rushed to the scene after the building collapsed, with reports indicating that at least some people could be trapped inside.

Three people have so far been pulled from the rubble, according to the initial reports. All three were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Rescue teams remain at the site as the search for any additional trapped occupants continues.
