The Greek city of Trikala is preparing for the return of one of the country’s largest Christmas attractions, with this year’s Mill of the Elves taking visitors into the magical world of The Wizard of Oz.
Running from November 20, 2026, through January 6, 2027, the 15th edition of the Christmas park will offer 48 days of festive activities, music, lights and interactive events, all with free admission.
Titled “Christmas in the World of Oz,” the 2026-27 event draws inspiration from the classic story and its film adaptations. Visitors will be able to explore the Emerald City and follow the Golden Path through a themed setting filled with colorful displays, entertainment and holiday surprises.
Organizers say the experience will appeal to children and adults alike, with new interactive activities designed especially for younger visitors. The story’s themes include friendship, the beauty of diversity and the importance of finding one’s own path.
The event is organized by e-Trikala and the Municipality of Trikala, with the participation of dozens of local organizations, associations and businesses. Alongside the themed attractions, a wide range of interactive activities and events will be offered free of charge.
Local artists bring Christmas to Trikala’s streets
The festive atmosphere will extend beyond the park itself through a new collaboration involving local institutions and the Association of Trikala Painters.
Under the initiative “We Are Everywhere,” artworks created by association members will be displayed in shop windows across the city, turning local businesses and streets into a festive art gallery. The project aims to enhance the city’s Christmas decorations while showcasing the work of local artists.
Additional events are also planned throughout Trikala during the holiday period.
Mayor Nikos Sakkas told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) that this year’s event brings the world of fairy tales to visitors of all ages and introduces new interactive experiences for children.
“We offer more, with free admission, and innovate with dedication for the most beautiful celebration,” Sakkas said, describing the park as an opportunity for a Christmas getaway in central Greece.
He added that the organizers had worked with the local community to highlight culture, creativity and the joy of the holiday season. Visitors from across Greece and abroad, he said, would discover changes, surprises and new features at the 15th Mill of the Elves.
According to the organizing committee, the event also supports the local economy, promotes culture and strengthens Trikala’s profile as a Christmas destination, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors from Greece and abroad.
