Authorities in Greece have launched an investigation after a 12-year-old girl was struck by a police vehicle on Tuesday evening in the area of Salamina.
The incident occurred at around 8 p.m. on a street near a primary school, as the child was reportedly attempting to cross at a pedestrian crossing. The impact caused alarm among bystanders, who rushed to assist immediately.
The girl was initially taken to a local health center before being transferred to a private hospital due to the severity of her injuries. She underwent surgery on her leg, where metal plates were inserted. According to sources close to the family, her condition is now stable, although the injury remains serious.
The driver of the police vehicle has been arrested, and a criminal case has been filed against him for bodily harm caused by negligence. At the same time, an internal administrative investigation has been ordered to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Police officials stated that efforts are underway to fully clarify the conditions of the incident. Investigators are examining whether the patrol car was responding to an emergency call and assessing the speed at which it was traveling at the time of the collision.
