In a heartfelt audio message recorded from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Thursday, the Pope expressed profound gratitude to those praying for his recovery.
On March 6, during a nightly prayer service in St. Peter’s Square, attendees were moved by the Pope’s brief audio message. Speaking in his native Spanish, he said, “I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers in the Square for my health. May God bless you.”
Pope Francis, 88, has been hospitalized since February 14 due to double pneumonia. As of March 6, the Vatican reported that his condition remains stable, with no new respiratory crises, according to Reuters.

The Pope’s hospitalization has been marked by cautious optimism from his medical team. While his vital signs are stable, doctors emphasize the challenges of recovery at his advanced age, especially considering his history of lung issues.
As a young adult, he underwent surgery to remove part of one lung due to pleurisy, making him more vulnerable to respiratory infections. Double pneumonia, which inflames and scars both lungs, presents a significant risk, particularly for elderly patients.
His treatment regimen includes respiratory and physical therapy to aid in regaining strength and mobility.

The Vatican has maintained transparency regarding the Pope’s health, providing regular updates. The decision to delay the next medical bulletin until Saturday reflects confidence in his current stability. However, medical experts caution that his path to full recovery may be prolonged and fraught with challenges.
This period marks the longest public absence in Pope Francis’ 12-year papacy, leading to widespread concern among the faithful. Despite his frailty, the Pope’s determination and resilience remain evident. Close confidants dismiss rumors of resignation, recalling his commitment to his duties and his fighting spirit.
