Imanol Alguacil’s players were the more threatening side for much of the first half at Roazhon Park, creating several opportunities to take the lead.
Gustavo Puerta came closest in the ninth minute, hitting the post, while Kostas Fortounis also threatened the Rennes defense. The hosts gradually improved and responded through Charlie Cresswell and Jordanian forward Mousa Al-Tamari, but Olympiacos goalkeeper Stefan Ortega made several important saves.
Rennes appeared to have broken the deadlock in the 43rd minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Rennes came close to snatching victory in stoppage time, but Ortega produced another crucial save to deny Valentin Rongier.
The draw leaves Olympiacos with 10 points from four games, keeping them firmly in contention for a top-eight finish, which guarantees direct qualification for the Europa League round of 16.
They have four league-phase matches remaining, including home fixtures against AC Milan and Hoffenheim, as they seek to secure their place among the competition’s leading eight teams.
