Μake us preferred on Google A nearly 56-meter luxury superyacht encountered difficulties while passing through the narrow Corinth Canal last Saturday, repeatedly striking the canal’s sides.
The incident involving the BLUE II was captured on video by the Korinthognosia channel. The footage shows the imposing vessel navigating extremely close to the canal’s steep sides and making contact with them at several points along the passage.
The superyacht, whose value is estimated at about US$50 million by specialized databases, was attempting to sail through the iconic Corinth Canal, which cuts through the Isthmus of Corinth and connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in south-central Greece.
The incident comes less than two months after the Corinth Canal reopened to maritime traffic following months of restoration and slope-stabilization works. The waterway resumed operations on June 17 after the completion of key interventions aimed at improving navigation safety and stabilizing sections of its slopes. A standing upgrade program remains underway.
