Three years after the devastating Hamas attack on Israel, the Greek Foreign Ministry on Wednesday marked the anniversary by calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and a renewed political effort toward a lasting settlement.
In a statement marking the Oct. 7, 2023, attack, the ministry said the assault had killed hundreds of civilians and triggered a dangerous cycle of escalation with serious consequences for peace and stability across the region.

The ministry said the return of the hostages had brought relief and represented an important step toward resolving the crisis.
It added, however, that further steps remained necessary, calling for the full implementation of the second phase of the 20 point peace plan for Gaza. The Foreign Ministry also reiterated its support for humanitarian initiatives and for the resumption of a political process aimed at reaching a two state solution. It said such a process, together with guarantees for Israel’s security, remained the only viable route to lasting peace in the Middle East, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
