A prison in central Greece is preparing to host its first-ever wedding ceremony, in what is being described as a unique and emotional moment for the facility.
The wedding is scheduled to take place on May 24 at Trikala Prison, located in the area of Balkoura, marking the first marriage ceremony held there since the prison opened two decades ago.
According to local reports, the ceremony will be held at the chapel of Saint Eleftherios, located inside the prison grounds. The bride is expected to arrive wearing a traditional wedding dress to marry her 45-year-old fiancé, who is currently serving time at the facility.
The religious ceremony will be officiated by Archimandrite Evmenios Avgoustakis, an Orthodox clergyman known in Greece for his appearance on the television cooking competition Master Chef. Over the past two years, he has also been providing spiritual support and guidance to inmates at the prison with the blessing of the local metropolitan bishop.
