A video filmed inside Korydallos Prison, Greece’s largest correctional facility, has revealed what appears to be the lavish lifestyle of hardened criminal inmates behind bars.
The footage, recorded around 10 days ago, shows an Afghan mafia boss seated at a table wearing gold chains, smoking, drinking alcohol and blasting trap music at high volume.
Next to him, another inmate can be seen using a mobile phone.
The prisoner in question has reportedly been convicted of multiple serious crimes, including drug trafficking, three homicides and kidnappings.
The video is take at nighttime, when the rest of the prisoners are in their cells. Reportedly, the video was uploaded to social media by the inmates themselves.
The incident has triggered strong reactions, as the video appears to suggest that the crime boss is able to live this luxurious lifestyle with the tolerance of prison staff.
The inmate in question was originally being held at a prison in Larissa Central Greece, but was temporarily transferred to Korydallos prison for a court appearance. However, even though the trial was postponed, the inmate was not transferred back, remaining at the Athens prison.
The Justice Ministry has not made any statement regarding the incident, but according to reports, the prison has launched an investigation into the case.
