Μake us preferred on Google Search and rescue efforts continued Tuesday in the sea area off Symi, a Greek island in the southeastern Aegean, for the last missing passenger from a sailboat incident that left one person unaccounted for.
A vessel from the Hellenic Coast Guard is participating in the operation, searching the wider maritime area in an effort to locate the eighth passenger.
Eight People Fell Into the Sea
The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, August 2, when the eight people aboard the sailboat—four men and four women—ended up in the water under circumstances that remain under investigation.
According to the information available so far, all eight passengers had entered the sea for a swim. The sailboat was then carried away by sea currents, leaving them unable to return to the vessel.
Seven Passengers Rescued
Search and rescue teams were mobilized immediately under the coordination of the Hellenic Coast Guard’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center.
During the operation, seven of the eight passengers were located and rescued safely.
Two of them managed to swim on their own to Panormitis Bay, where they reached shore. The search continues for the remaining missing passenger.
